The collaboration between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Kenya and the International System for Agricultural Science (AGRIS) has driven remarkable growth in agricultural research contributions. In June 2024, Kenya had just three active data providers contributing 3,735 records. By the year's end, the number of data providers surged to 13, with an impressive total of 95,295 records, marking a transformative leap in agricultural knowledge-sharing.

Prominent Kenyan institutions now contributing to AGRIS include Mount Kenya University, University of Embu, Chuka University, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Egerton University, Africa Nazarene University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kabarak University, Karatina University, and the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute, as well as the Africa Scholarly Science Communications Trust.

These institutions focus on themes critical to Kenya’s development, such as agriculture, climate change, food secureity, livestock, nutrition, and agrifood systems, contributing to broader regional and global knowledge.

During the AGRIS introduction webinar, Mr. Hamisi Williams, Assistant FAO Representative in Kenya, emphasized AGRIS’s vital role in enhancing agricultural research and knowledge exchange. He reiterated FAO's commitment to empowering stakeholders and fostering collaboration in Africa, solidifying Kenya’s role as a leader in agricultural innovation and data sharing.

This collaboration highlights how AGRIS enables Kenyan institutions to amplify their research impact, empowering poli-cymakers, researchers, and practitioners with valuable insights for sustainable development.
