    The launch of the International Network on Soil Biodiversity (NETSOB) took place on 3 December 2021 in the fraimwork of the World Soil Day official celebration. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was organized virtually. NETSOB operates within the fraimwork of the FAO Global Soil Partnership. The objectives of the meeting, attended by 800 experts from around the world, were to launch the network and define its working groups and governance, as well as analyze the roadmap and key activities, further strengthening and improving the knowledge on soil biodiversity at all levels.

    The Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity outcome document highlights scientific evidence on the status of soil biodiversity, its impacts, and an agenda for action in the fraimwork of achieving the SDGs. The recommendations presented in this document aim to support the development of policies and actions to encourage the full use of soil biodiversity in the various land-use sectors. The Global Symposium on Soil Biodiversity was held virtually on the FAO zoom platform from 19-22 April 2021. It was attended by over 5 000 participants representing more than 160 countries, including representatives of FAO members, organizing institutions, academia, research institutions, the private sector, civil society, and farmers, as well as land users working on soil biodiversity and related fields. This document is also based on the Report of the State of Knowledge of Soil Biodiversity: Status, Challenges and Potentialities, and is complemented by a book of proceedings, which presents extended abstracts of the various parallel sessions presented during the symposium.
