Join the panel discussion Transformative Power of Agroecology, organized by the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID) Agrifood Collective, in technical cooperation with the FAO Liaison Office in Geneva and World Food Forum (WFF). The panel discussion will feature various experts from FAO, IHEID, Biovision, and FIAN International.  

Following the panel discussion, participate in an interactive session to explore different perspectives and insights from young professionals, academics, and researchers. Academic students and young professionals will be able to engage with FAO technical experts, Biovision professionals, and other partners, fostering deeper knowledge of agroecology on a global level.  

The event will include the following speakers:

Opening Remarks:

Giulia Azzarello, Co-president of the Agrifood Collective (MA Candidate at the Geneva Graduate Institute) 

Keynote Speakers:

Rémi Cluset, Agroecology Advisor (based in Ecosystem Approach to Crop Production Intensification Team of FAO’s Plant Production and Protection Division)

Dr. Christophe Golay, Senior Research Fellow at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (expert on the right to food and right of peasants)

Sibylle Dirren, Research and Advocacy Officer at FIAN International (specializing in agrotoxics, transition to agroecology and UNDROPS)

Larissa DA SILVA ARAUJO, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Gender Centre of the Geneva Graduate Institute (focus on the relations between feminism and agroecology)

Charlotte Pavageau, Senior programme manager, Policy and Advocacy at the Biovision Foundation, (expert in environmental resource management and agroecology)

Ambrogio Zanzi, World Food Forum Young Scientist Group (PHD in agroecology with a focus on urban and peri-urban environments)

Objectives

  • Introduce academic students to agroecology, highlight current discussions on its various methods and present global agroecology initiatives.
  • Open the floor for students to have an interactive discussion to engage with professionals, experts, other academic students, and researchers around practical implementation and development projects on agroecology and learning first-hand from practitioners and researchers.
  • Raising awareness on initiatives centered around agroecology in action, including FAO’s 10 Elements of Agroecology, spotlighting efforts in achieving SDGS 2030 through agroecology.
  • Strengthen youth action and engagement in Switzerland through working with young academics and professionals on the topic of agroecology, amplifying the WFF Regional works and efforts.
  • Raise awareness on the newly release WFF Global Youth Action Plan 2025 – 2026 Version 1.0 for academic students to learn more on the two-year blueprint on accelerating youth action on the local to have an impact on a larger scale.
