FAO/WHO GIFT | Global Individual Food Consumption Data Tool

New article released!

01/12/2022

We are pleased to announce the publication of the “Open data sharing for dietary surveys data” article in UN Nutrition Journal - Volume 1: Transforming Nutrition, Global Innovations section (pp.99).

This article illustrates the FAO/WHO Global Individual Food Consumption Data Tool (FAO/WHO GIFT) and how it serves a wide range of stakeholders to access and use dietary data.

The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the FAO/WHO GIFT platform and highlight the relevance of Individual Quantitative Food Consumption (IQFC) Data. IQFC data generates evidence needed to address the challenges of malnutrition and hunger. By disseminating it, FAO/WHO GIFT increases the number of stakeholders who may use IQFC data, allows for re-purposing of the data, and contributes to the improvement in the quality of newly collected data. The analysis of the user traffic on the FAO/WHO GIFT platform shows that free data sharing contributes to strengthen nutrition information systems through its innovative approach to knowledge dissemination and by filling the knowledge gap on what people eat and drink.

Enjoy the reading!
