FAO Food Price Index dips during the month of December

The benchmark for world food commodity prices declined in December compared to the previous month, led down by a drop in international sugar quotations, FAO reported. For 2024 as a whole, the index recorded 122.0 points, 2.1 percent lower than the average value in 2023

Funded by USAID, FAO's DIEM leverages regularly collected primary data to assess the impact of shocks in food crisis contexts. Its goal is to support evidence-based decision-making, protecting agricultural livelihoods and strengthening resilience.

NEWS
In 2024, escalating violence drove extreme hunger crises from Gaza and the Sudan to Haiti. The number of people facing, or projected to face, catastrophic hunger conditions more than doubled, rising from 705 000 in 2023 to 1.9 million people by mid-2024 across five countries/territories.
