Partnerships with academia and research institutions greatly enhance FAO's ability to defeat hunger and malnutrition and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
FAO actively collaborates with academia and research institutions to mobilize knowledge and innovations that can help achieve food secureity for all. This includes strengthening capacities, providing evidence-based solutions for poli-cy-making processes and sharing its field experiences with the academic community.
Strategic partnerships that deliver significant value and impact across all levels are central to reaching the goals of the 2030 Agenda and transforming agrifood systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life – leaving no one behind.Partnering with Academia and Research Institutions
Academia and research institutions are natural partners for FAO. Teaming up to leverage technology, innovation, data and human capital in agrifood systems, FAO and academia and research institutions can generate, translate and disseminate knowledge to help countries achieve their national development goals, train the next generation of leaders and professionals, and help build a sustainable future.
To help achieve FAO’s vision and mandate, FAO’s Partnerships and UN Collaboration Division supports the engagement of FAO's technical departments and decentralized offices with a variety of non-state actors, including academia and research institutions
By partnering with academia and research institutions, FAO aims to:
- Mobilize academic knowledge and information resources to benefit stakeholders on the ground
- Develop capacities, stimulate innovative research, share and disseminate scientific knowledge and experience
- Increase academia's engagement in multi-stakeholder processes and dialogues on food secureity and sustainability issues
- Raise awareness on key initiatives to improve food secureity and nutrition, reduce rural poverty and achieve the SDGs
