My first point of call is to ask why? Is the problem with the protocol, can it be followed? Or does it cause frustration and delays with non value adding steps in the name of safety? Most protocols that are not followed have been written with legal compliance in mind not operational needs.

Enhance engagement by involving team members in creating practical safety solutions, promoting ownership and compliance. Leverage technology to monitor and reinforce adherence effectively. Align all actions with regulatory standards to mitigate risks and protect team welfare. These steps not only prioritize safety but also strengthen team trust and collaboration.

Everything that is obvious like safety audits, safety notices, mandatory safety compliance that we generally enforce on our employees usually don’t work well. There are still some employees who will never take safety protocol as a priority so in my understanding, the best way to make employees prioritize safety protocols is to make them aware of the hazards it can cause to other employees i.e targetting one’s emotional side. Guilt of not following through a safety protocol and how it could effect someone else is a very effective way of tapping into someone’s conscious. Other than that we can always have the safety checks time paid seperately than regular hours but that again dosen’t motivate employees to do their best at basics.

This is common perspective in workers that ignoring safety rules will not bring any harm to them. To remove this problem and bring better results, following strategies may be useful:- 1. More training & coaching 2. Introducing integration of operations along with safety compliance 3. Reward and punishment system definitely brings better results 4. Frequent targeted campaigns with good insights into the benefits of safety compliance 5. Communicating to the workers the disadvantages of not following the safety protocols (showing them accident videos) 6. Bench marking safety performance for promotions
