Here are some seeds I sprinkle on top of the snow, in zone 6b. I sometimes will press them down to make better contact. You can also put a very light layer of straw to prevent the birds from eating them. Keeping the straw at a light layer will still allow sunlight to get to the seeds. Light is also needed for some seeds to germinate. * Nigella I sow some in fall. I also sprinkle a few over the snow and then I save some to sprinkle in very early spring/late winter. * Anise Hyssop * Purple Coneflower * Poppies, personally I have not had success but I know others that have. I use the ice cube method of cold stratification. * Larkspur * Garden Phlox * Milkweed Mark your area well and look for green sprouts in the spring! Keep in mind that some of these perennial flowers (phlox, milkweed, coneflower) may not bloom on the first year. New here? My mind is constantly thinking about the progression of the garden throughout the season and how to bring color and excitement to each and every moment. I’m also pondering the new garden to be added as soon as the ground thaws!! It’s easy for me to get ahead of myself this year because we have no snow on the ground! It’s so strange. I’m hoping it doesn’t impact all my plants because it normally acts as insulation for them 😬 • Anyway, I hope this inspires you to start thinking about your gardens! • • #cottagegarden #cottagegardenlove #mycottage #mycottagegarden #englishcottagegarden #cottagegardening #cottagegardensamplings #gardensofinstagram #courtyardgarden #perennialgardens #gardenanswer #countrygardens #gardengatemagazine #thecottagejournal #gardeninspiration #unbelievablegardens #cottagesandbungalows #homeandgarden #thehappygardeninglife #gardendesign #romanticgardendreams #countrygarden #gardenplanning #gardengreatorsmall #betterhomesandgardens #clarkcottagegardens | Clark Cottage Gardens
