First measure down two to three inches from where you want the T-shirt to lay and mark with a pin. Then mark exactly where you want your sleeves to stop. Lay the shirt on a flat surface. A cutting mat is helpful because you can easily line up the T-shirt on a straight line. Cut the shirt straight across where you made your mark. Fold your T-shirt in half and eye a straight line going from the outside of your pin to the armpit of the shirt. Line up the sleeves so you can cut them both at the same time. The cut will be at a slight angle. Unfold the shirt and trim any jagged edges so you have nice clean looking cuts on both sleeves. Open up the shirt like this and fold it so the two sides are together. Count three to four inches up from the backside and cut a small wedge ending at that three to four inch mark. Start small because you can always cut a larger wedge if the shirt is too wide. It should look like a pie piece was cut out of the back of the shirt. Now tie a knot and try it on. If the shirt is too wide, I do the knot and cut a larger wedge and if your sleeves are sticking out too much, here's how you can make them curve around your shoulders. Pinch the fabric at the end of the sleeve and use a basic stitch to tuck it down. If you want to go the extra mile, stitch it again right at the shoulder seam. Don't forget to knot it off so it will stay forever through multiple washes. Now, look at the difference a little creative cutting can make. Here's the before and here's the after.
