Matthew Upton

Matt is the Director of Technology Commercialization at UK Innovate, where he oversees a team managing the University's intellectual property, licensing and startup portfolios. Previously, he served as the Senior Associate Director of Intellectual Property Development at UK Innovate. Matt is a licensed patent attorney.
He began his career with Standley Law Group LLP in Dublin, Ohio later becoming a partner at Barney DeBrosse, LLC in Columbus, Ohio focusing on patent preparation and prosecution, patent litigation and innovation commercialization. Following private practice, Matt was patent counsel for the North American region for Wacker Chemical Corporation based in Adrian, Michigan. Matt graduated with a degree in chemistry from West Virginia University and magna cum laude with a Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School.
