UK Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences (UK-CARES)

The University of Kentucky Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences (UK-CARES) is an National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) Core Center to enhance research capacity focused on major environmental health impacts to air and water quality that have been implicated in environmentally induced disease. The Center will provide advanced infrastructure and leading expertise, dedicated career development and mentorship, and community-engaged interactions to facilitate innovative discovery and new understandings of environmental factors in disease initiation, progression, and outcomes and their community impacts.

 

UK-CARES expands its research and community-engaged outreach at its annual 2024 Research Summit!

UK Vice President of Research, Dr. Lisa Cassis kicked off the event as she welcomed new UK-CARES Directors, Dr. Erin Haynes and Dr. Hollie Swanson!

Keynote speaker, Amanda LeFevre, Deputy Commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection, addressed Kentucky’s Environmental Health Issues and Opportunities for Research and Collaboration. Experts gathered to collaborate and expand research on air, water and emerging exposures concerns facing the Commonwealth.
