Our vision is a safe Carolina community where students’ academic and personal success is not impaired by substance use.

Been referred to STIR?

The Students Taking Initiative & Responsibility (STIR) Screening & Intervention Program is built to provide you with tools to reduce high-risk alcohol and cannabis use and related consequences.

We value all members of our Carolina Community. If you are concerned about a student's behavior, including alcohol and drug use, take action and refer them to the Student Care and Outreach Team.

Following this kind of referral, our STIR coaches can reach out to offer no-cost supportive services to the student.

Required Community Education

All new students are required to take online modules before and during their first semester of classes. This requirement applies to all:

new undergraduate or graduate students.
transfer students (including re-admit or returning students).
change-of-campus students.
Gamecock Gateway students.
international students.

These required courses are completed in two parts—one at the beginning of the school year and one a few weeks later. A hold will be placed on your account if you do not complete all requirements by the deadlines, and you will not be able to register for classes until the hold is lifted.
