Home - Solarize the Kenai

Solarize the Kenai is a volunteer-led group of community members and organizations who are working to make it easier and more affordable to go solar on the Kenai Peninsula.

Since 2020, neighbors helping neighbors improve their community and save on their electrical bills adding over 845 kW of new solar capacity with 142 households/businesses.

There are no Solarize programs planned for 2023.  

Solarize the Kenai activities have been suspended till further notice. We will endeavor to maintain current information and helpful tools on this site.   If you have interest in creating a group of interested home, or business owners, or if you have information concerning solar power, the solar industry and any other energy related topics please reach out to us.

Solarize the Kenai 2020 and 2021

Between April 1st and August 1st 2020, the central and lower peninsula Solarize the Kenai campaigns cumulatively generated 82 solar installs for households/businesses, adding 485 kW of new solar capacity on the peninsula.  In 2021 the campaigns included the City of Seward and cumulatively generated over 60 household/business installs adding 360 kW of new solar capacity.

Total new solar capacity = 845 kW

“Residential renewable energy systems that are used to develop means of energy production using energy sources other than fossil or nuclear fuel, including, but not limited to windmills and water and solar energy devices located in the borough are exempt from taxation under this chapter.”
