Extremely Critical Fire Weather in Southern California; Winter Storm To Impact the Southern U.S.

High winds and low relative humidity will continue critical to extremely critical fire weather in southern California through Thursday. A winter storm is expected to bring major impacts from areas of heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain to portions of the southern Plains beginning on Thursday before intensifying as it shifts across the Mid-South Friday through Saturday morning. Heavy mixed winter precipitation is expected to begin around midday on Thursday and last through Friday morning. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 8 inches, mainly along and north of the I-30 corridor, and ice accumulations up to one quarter inch are expected in the warning area (pink-shaded). Lesser amounts of snow and ice are expected farther south and east in the advisory area (purple-shaded).
