----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue Feb 27 16:41:58 GMT 2018 Year: 18 Doy: 058 Observer: waters WEATHER COMMENT: waters: Tue Feb 27 17:15:40 GMT 2018 Temp 37F with windspeed at about 4-10mph from the South-Southeast. Cirrus covering most of the sky at present but looks like it might clear soon. Board walk was slick this morning; walking on the lava was a much safer bet. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 17:39:02 GMT 2018 PM Blew off Kcor O1 ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 17:39:06 GMT 2018 PM Blew off CoMP O1 ___end___ Tue Feb 27 17:53:57 GMT 2018 SGS Alignment complete Tue Feb 27 17:54:15 GMT 2018 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited Tue Feb 27 17:59:18 GMT 2018 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol CoMP COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 18:05:07 GMT 2018 CoMP looked a little weird when we wen to center the occulter; the background around the center image looked indigo and then the top left image looked like something was covering a sliver of it. You can aksi see the post. Stopping and starting the GUI didn't help. Allen is doing an inspection now. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 18:17:51 GMT 2018 Some cirrus floating through, pushing K-Cor through. ___end___ Tue Feb 27 18:18:12 GMT 2018 CoMP occulter has been re-centered Tue Feb 27 18:19:42 GMT 2018 COMP Start Patrol on cookbook: synoptic-00012.cbk Tue Feb 27 18:29:51 GMT 2018 CoMP Paused for clouds Tue Feb 27 18:29:58 GMT 2018 KCOR End Patrol **CoMP PROBLEM COMMENT BY waters** : Tue Feb 27 18:56:27 GMT 2018 Paused instruments to do a physcial inspection of CoMP. Allen inspected the lens, looked down the tube, took off the aft optics cover and inspected inside. Nothing looked off or out of place. Double checked the O1 to see if it might be seated slightly off but everything was fine, as far as we could tell. Not sure what to make of it. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 18:56:54 GMT 2018 Instruments remaining idle until cirrus has passed. ___end___ Tue Feb 27 19:08:15 GMT 2018 CoMP Restarted from pause Tue Feb 27 19:08:16 GMT 2018 COMP End Patrol Tue Feb 27 19:08:49 GMT 2018 CoMP occulter has been re-centered Tue Feb 27 19:12:39 GMT 2018 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol **CoMP PROBLEM COMMENT BY waters** : Tue Feb 27 19:14:53 GMT 2018 Tested the filter wheels using a program that Ben had made to do such a thing. Everything seemed to be reading out fine, no errors. Didn't make a difference. ___end___ Tue Feb 27 19:20:23 GMT 2018 KCOR End Patrol GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 19:21:13 GMT 2018 Paused K-Cor, sky is getting a little bright ___end___ Tue Feb 27 19:24:05 GMT 2018 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Tue Feb 27 19:28:05 GMT 2018 KCOR End Patrol Tue Feb 27 19:31:11 GMT 2018 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Tue Feb 27 19:32:21 GMT 2018 CoMP occulter has been re-centered Tue Feb 27 19:36:55 GMT 2018 KCOR End Patrol GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 19:37:57 GMT 2018 Idling K-Cor for bright sky. ___end___ **CoMP PROBLEM COMMENT BY waters** : Tue Feb 27 19:45:57 GMT 2018 The focus lens ran fine, with a nice curve but when we started to ake data, the two solar images looked bad. Lots of bullet holes, brightening around the image but the two images weren't identical. The bottom right had bullet holes that the upper left didn't have and the upper left looked like something is partially covering it in the top left. Something to note, is that K-Cor data looked perfectly fine. Halting CoMP data for now until the issue is resolved. It doesn't seem like we'd get any data with how it is now. ___end___ Tue Feb 27 19:57:36 GMT 2018 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Tue Feb 27 20:00:02 GMT 2018 KCOR End Patrol GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 20:00:26 GMT 2018 Cirrus crossing again, K-Cor idled. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 20:01:58 GMT 2018 CMEDetection software not working. GUI remains blank when hitting the start button. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 27 21:42:34 GMT 2018 Closed the dome for some low looking clouds off to the West, just in case. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: waters: Wed Feb 28 02:29:09 GMT 2018 Unfortunately, we got clouded out after 10am hst. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. ___end___ ONSITE STAFF: stueben, watersFetched URL: https://download.hao.ucar.edu/d5/mlso/log/observer/2018/mlso.2018d058.olog
