----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sat May 8 16:48:17 GMT 2021 Year: 21 Doy: 128 Observer: mlso WEATHER COMMENT: mcotter: Sat May 08 16:48:18 GMT 2021 Temp: 43.6f, Humidity: 26%, Pressure: 28.726in, Wind: 3mph from 142degs, Skies: Clear skies for the most part but there are a few Altocumulus clouds scattered on the north and eastern horizon. Inversion layer visible on the horizon at or just above Haleakala. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat May 08 16:48:25 GMT 2021 Opened windows upstairs ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat May 08 16:48:33 GMT 2021 PM Blew off Kcor O1 ___end___ Sat May 08 16:57:32 GMT 2021 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat May 08 17:01:12 GMT 2021 Kcor now running, though the sky is a bit bright. SGS offsets: X(RA): -115, Y(Dec): 65. Checked Polarization: Mid, Bright, Dark, Mid. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat May 08 18:40:26 GMT 2021 Small puffs of Cumulus clouds are forming over the summit on Maunaloa and are drifting within the viewing area. Additionally wisps of Altocumulus clouds are forming in the west. The clouds near the observatory are not big, so I am going to continue to let Kcor run and pause as necessary when a cloud goes by. There does not appear to be a threat of precipitation so I believe it is okay to continue to leave the dome open. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat May 08 18:41:07 GMT 2021 Kcor paused. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat May 08 19:24:50 GMT 2021 Kcor remains paused. Altocumulus clouds have increase in the west and are now forming south-southwest. The clouds have increased above the summit of Maunaloa and are obscuring much of the viewing area. The dome remains open, as it does not appear that precipitation is imminent. The clouds on the south to west horizon appear to be moving toward the observatory but the wind is very light so it is difficult to judge when, or if, they will arrive. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat May 08 20:32:10 GMT 2021 I have restarted Kcor but it is only going to be for a brief period as I can see more Altocumulus clouds building in the south and blowing toward the viewing area. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat May 08 20:45:28 GMT 2021 Cloud coverage has increased. The dome shutter doors and windows are closed until conditions improve. Kcor is again paused. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun May 09 00:26:26 GMT 2021 The day started off clear but clouds came in quickly in the mid morning and Kcor was stopped. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun May 09 00:28:15 GMT 2021 The summit is darkly overcast with a light fog. A small amount of data was able to be taken this morning before the sky became overcast. ___end___ ONSITE STAFF: mcotter
