----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mon Sep 5 16:34:41 GMT 2022 Year: 22 Doy: 248 Observer: mlso WEATHER COMMENT: mcotter: Mon Sep 05 16:47:14 GMT 2022 Temp: 47.7f, Humidity: 10%, Pressure: 28.616in, Wind: 14mph from 175 degs. Clouds with rain and mist from Hilo to approximately 10,000' elevation. Clouds on the eastern horizon are above the level of the observatory with clouds blowing across the summit of Maunaloa. Clear skies overhead as strong gusty winds are keeping the clouds to the east of the observatory. No discernible inversion layer is visible as clouds are scattered across the sky in all directions at different levels. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Sep 05 16:47:32 GMT 2022 Opened windows upstairs ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Sep 05 16:47:38 GMT 2022 PM Blew off UCoMP O1 ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Sep 05 16:47:48 GMT 2022 PM Blew off Kcor O1 ___end___ Mon Sep 05 17:13:15 GMT 2022 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Sep 05 17:14:24 GMT 2022 An attempt was made to start the instruments but wisps of Cirrus are visible on the Eastern Sky in the viewing area and making the sky too bright to observe at this time. ___end___ Mon Sep 05 17:32:22 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelength_coronal_flat.cbk line 0 Mon Sep 05 17:33:07 GMT 2022 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited WEATHER COMMENT: mcotter: Mon Sep 05 17:34:12 GMT 2022 The clouds that were obstructing viewing earlier have receded and the sky is now clear to observe. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Sep 05 17:34:28 GMT 2022 Kcor now observing. ___end___ UCoMP COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Sep 05 17:34:44 GMT 2022 Ucomp now observing. ___end___ Mon Sep 05 17:53:14 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelength_coronal.cbk line 0 Mon Sep 05 18:31:44 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelength_coronal.cbk line 0 Mon Sep 05 19:09:45 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelength_coronal.cbk line 0 GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Sep 05 19:10:06 GMT 2022 PM Blew off Kcor Field Lens. When observing the Kcor NRGF images a small artifact in the Southeast quadrant, at approximately 125 degs., appeared like dust on the Field Lens. The artifact is now gone, so blowing off the Field Lens has removed the debris in the light path. ___end___ Mon Sep 05 19:47:49 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelength_coronal_flat.cbk line 0 Mon Sep 05 20:08:24 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook waves_1074_1hour.cbk line 0 Mon Sep 05 20:17:03 GMT 2022 KCOR Start Calibration script: c:\kcor\mlso-calibration22deg-20171025.ini Mon Sep 05 20:32:17 GMT 2022 KCOR End Calibration Script Mon Sep 05 21:18:51 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook dark_80ms_2beam_16sums_BOTH.cbk line 0 Mon Sep 05 21:20:08 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook 637_Pol_Calibrate.cbk line 0 ****Possible CME in Progress reported by mcotter**** : Mon Sep 05 21:20:17 GMT 2022 TIME: 18:58:08 UT PA: 90 deg WIDTH: 20 deg Observer reports with MEDIUM confidence a CME at the time, position angle, and width noted. I saw that the mounting plate that the dome drive motor mounts to was moving when directions were changed. I tightened down the two main hold down nuts and applied Thread Locker to the threads to inhibit vibration loosening. The mechanism seems tight now and there was no movement to the motor mounting plate when the dome was rotated or reversed. ___end___ Mon Sep 05 23:00:14 GMT 2022 UCoMP Restarted from pause GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Sep 05 23:00:24 GMT 2022 Instruments are again observing, though aerosols are heavy. ___end___ Mon Sep 05 23:41:07 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelength_coronal.cbk line 21 Mon Sep 05 23:41:08 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelength_coronal_flat.cbk line 0 Mon Sep 05 23:41:59 GMT 2022 UCoMP Paused for clouds Mon Sep 05 23:45:27 GMT 2022 UCoMP Restarted from pause WEATHER COMMENT: mcotter: Mon Sep 05 23:47:22 GMT 2022 Aerosols are increasing dramatically and bits of rogue clouds are frequently entering and exiting the viewing area. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: mcotter: Tue Sep 06 00:04:44 GMT 2022 Clouds are beginning to enter the viewing area again and aerosols are very high. Orographic clouds and heavy aerosols began to pick up in late morning early afternoon. ___end___ ONSITE STAFF: mcotterFetched URL: https://download.hao.ucar.edu/d5/mlso/log/observer/2022/mlso.2022d248.olog
