Navy DSRC
The U.S. Navy DoD Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC), in partnership with the High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP), is a premier provider of high performance computing (HPC) services and support to Department of Defense (DoD) scientists and engineers. By leveraging the latest in HPC technology and software and our in-depth expertise in HPC systems configuration and administration, high-speed networking, data archival systems, and HPC user support, the Navy DSRC greatly improves the computational research environment for DoD researchers.
The Navy DSRC supports the HPCMP by providing leadership for HPCMP-wide functions and initiatives, including enterprise systems monitoring and remote system and database administration.
The Navy DSRC also provides users with in-depth computational research expertise, with support for the largest, most computationally intensive HPC applications available. Our in-house knowledge is further supplemented by the Productivity Enhancement and Training (PET) on-site staff with expertise in the areas of Advanced Computational Environment and Climate Weather Ocean Modeling and Simulation.
The Navy DSRC also provides, on a daily basis, computational support for the creation of global, regional, and very high resolution coastal ocean circulation and wave model oceanography products supporting worldwide Navy and DoD operations. By making state-of-the-art HPC systems including large-scale supercomputing systems, high-speed networks, and petascale data storage accessible to thousands of DoD scientists and engineers, the Navy DSRC is focused on promoting the technological supremacy of the warfighter.
Systems
Our unclassified HPC systems are accessible through the Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN) to all active customers. Our current systems include:
Narwhal - an HPE Cray EX system located at the Navy DSRC. It has 2,304 standard compute nodes, 26 large-memory nodes, 16 visualization accelerated nodes, 32 Single-GPU MLA accelerated nodes, and 32 Dual-GPU MLA accelerated nodes (a total of 2,410 compute nodes or 308,480 compute cores). It has 640 TB of memory and is rated at 13.5 peak PFLOPS.
Nautilus - a Penguin TrueHPC system located at the Navy DSRC. It has 1,384 standard compute nodes, 16 large-memory nodes, 16 visualization accelerated nodes, 32 AI/ML nodes, and 32 High Core Performance nodes (a total of 1,480 compute nodes or 186,368 compute cores). It has 386 TB of memory and is rated at 8.5 peak PFLOPS.
For information on restricted systems, see the Restricted Systems page (PKI required).
