Grigor Minasyan reacted on thisGrigor Minasyan reacted on thisIt couldn't happen to me. The hazy shadow in the nook of the room, the possibility of layoffs. I forced it to exist outside my sphere of reality. If I pretended I couldn't see it, it couldn't see me. But it did. Asurion went through a round of rough layoffs today, and I received the call no one wants to get in the early morning. It was a simple, utilitarian notice that my role was eliminated, a spoke in the wheel of simplification. I walked into this month with the expectation of promotion and left disoriented and back in a job market that looked nothing like it did when I left college. But the first thought that blinked into my head wasn't where I'd land next. What my next job would be. How I would get my finances in check. What would happen to my healthcare, or other benefits. It was the thought of my team. My infectiously funny, earnest, talented team. These people made working feel like recess. The playful banter, the constant encouragement and support. The sense that I had a support system. My team scraped together the pieces of a naive, unsure college graduate and tempered them into a productive Software Engineer, with real business impact and technical chops. I learned very quickly that the best commodity you can have at any company isn't your glistening new MacBook, or snazzy company phone. It's your people. Your friends. They enriched my working life more than any pay-check could. A special thank you to Curtis Hughes Madelyn Reyes Scott Behrman Casey Lemon Daniel Ryan Carolyn Ryan Josh Sullivan Nathan Hill David Wright Indra Pachipala for being great teammates and mentors, and making my time at Asurion rich, vibrant, and full of laughter. With much joy and appreciation for the time I had at Asurion (and a little twinge of sorrow), it's now my time to move on, and to humbly ask those in my network, or anyone who spent the time reading through my word salad, to keep me on your radar for potential roles in Full-stack Engineering, or similar Software Engineering roles. If any Technical Recruiters or Hiring Managers are actively looking for strong Software Engineering candidates, please don't hesitate to reach out! Let me share a little of the humor and positivity my team taught me to embrace with your team. And to any other Asurion alumni impacted by these layoffs, if you need to chat, or grab a beer, my door is open. Let's talk.

Q1 2026 Tech Market: Myth vs. What I'm Actually Seeing 👇 1. Myth: Companies are pushing everyone back to 5 days onsite in SF/NY. Reality: Yes — but they're paying for it. Most of those companies are struggling to hire top talent because the majority of senior engineers still want - you guessed it - flexibility! Hybrid or remote. The SF/NY local market engineers are flooded with messages which makes them even harder to reach. I get an immediate "No" from stellar senior engineers for roles at highly valued startups, because their only requirement is not going back in office. I'm hearing these companies are already offering remote or flex exceptions for Staff+ and critical hires. This isn't sustainable for company culture. My prediction: in 1-2 years, most will quietly swing back to hybrid 3-4 days a week just to stay competitive. 2. Myth: Engineering hiring has slowed down. Reality: Not really. Hiring is competitive and booming for early stage Product Engineers, Forward Deployed Engineers, and the hottest "AI Engineer" - a unicorn Staff+ with AI agent / LLM experience in a production environment. If you have that background, companies are actively competing for you right now. With that said, there are still a surplus of candidates for most roles and we are still in what is considered an employers market. The first wave of AI investments is hitting early growth stage and Head of Talent roles are popping up everywhere - the biggest indicator of hiring growth to come. It's a good time to look for a job again. 3. Myth: AI is replacing jobs already. Reality: Sort of — but not how people think. AI is augmenting tasks, and certain roles are converging as a result, but it's not eliminating them entirely. It's taking over parts of jobs, not whole jobs. It's also creating new jobs. Companies that laid people off in the last 2 years are now hiring people back to fill the gaps AI can't cover. The market is moving fast. The media is telling you everything is doomed. Know what's real and what's noise. What are others seeing out there?
