DCMI Metadata expressed in RDF Schema Language

In addition to the webpage for DCMI Metadata Terms, DCMI has since 2000 published machine-processable representations of the metadata terms in RDF for use in Semantic Web and Linked Data applications. Indeed, the first W3C Recommendation for RDF in 1999 included a section about Dublin Core citing the experimental, but long deprecated, namespace URI http://purl.org/metadata/dublin_core. RDF representations of the metadata terms have been published by DCMI since 2000, first in RDF/XML, later also in Turtle, and for awhile also in RDFa. These are listed below in reverse chronological order.

DCMI metadata terms have been identified since the late 1990s using Persistent URLs (PURLs), a technology first developed by the Office of Research at OCLC, which at the time hosted the directorate of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative. Since 2016, the PURL service has been hosted by the Internet Archive.

RDF representations - RDFa

The 2012-06-14 release of the webpage for DCMI Metadata Terms included an embedded RDF representation of the term definitions using RDFa 1.1. The DCMI server was configured to serve RDF/XML, Turtle, or RDFa/HTML representations in response to browser or application requests ("content negotiation").
