Gonna stick my head up and say "We're closing this thread temporarily because we don't have enough mod coverage and it's super cranky in here" is way better than cranky people complaining in an open MeTa because mods aren't responding and… [more]

I'm not diving into litigating past threads but in general, non-answer answers in AskMe should go. And to the extent that the difference between now and previous recent times is mods being clearer about when they're deleting, that's fine. [more]

Don't want to crap on the subject of the OP but I'm another Gen X listener who was 100% Team Cure even back in the day. I have always loved Marr's guitar playing but Morrissey has always put me off even when I was in the whiny adolescent demographic… [more]

I can't speak to the oil porn in this show, but it's based on a Texas Monthly podcast so you know it's going to be oil propaganda. Texas Monthly is generally on the proper side of things for Texas but everything down here is oil propaganda. The… [more]

When you say Soldier of Fortune, I, who played D&D with some ex-service guys in the late 80s, think of how many adverts they had for working in Rhodesia back in the day. There are amounts of yikes in that I don't want to contemplate in the… [more]

That doesn’t make any sense. She’s going to win over the Texas legislature by destroying the Mavericks? Trading a great white star for a less great black one? No, she just isn't going to spend big and buy/keep a winning team until/unless… [more]

My dad traveled a lot internationally by air when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s. I remember a plane going off the runway in DC into the Potomac in the late 70s/early 80s and being terrified that my parents, who were going on a trip together without… [more]

I was partway through decluttering my closet and doing a bunch of furniture moving when I got covid for the first time. Five years of avoiding it and Mr Epigrams brought it back from a mandatory work trip (not mad at him but sure am annoyed at his work for putting us in this situation). On the one hand, I am getting nothing done right now. On the other hand, getting this sick is generally very clarifying. It's easy for me to say "fuck it, I am not wearing that pair of pants" and putting it straight in the donate bag instead of telling myself "I'll style it differently" or whatever. [more]

We just got new furniture (dining table with chairs plus replacing the old sofa; a long-planned expenditure, time chosen on the basis of "let's get it before the economy goes where it's going under TFG) so we're well-placed to do this. There are a few more pieces of furniture we need to figure out for my little office, but this is a great time to declutter and move things, especially the art which was based on the old furniture configuration and will need a significant reshuffle for the new one. Ultimate reward: open house so all my local folks can visit. [more]
