NymphadoraTonks is me. I'm an MLS (Masters of Library Science) student at Indiana University, Bloomington. Nymphadora Tonks, the Harry Potter character, is a girl. I am a guy. Please excuse the cognitive dissonance. Contrary to what my interests or background may suggest, I am not a total geek. Though I am a librarian... so do what you will with that information.

I'm still newish to Wikipedia, especially since I was active in June only and then effectively forgot about it until around the middle of October. My contributions are sporadic and unfocused, but I'm getting better. Sometimes I sit and copyedit and article or two. Sometimes all I want to do is welcome new people. In a minute, I plan to look through Articles for Deletion and vote on a bunch of stuff. I've only started one article so far. It's little. I'm not really Fact Guy, but I'm pretty good at grammar, making language elegant (you'd never know it from my bio), and being nice to people... so that's what I do.

But mostly, I sign on with no direction and then end up browsing people's talk pages and reading random articles and forgetting I'm supposed to help.

6 Basic Stats

  • Name: Scott (a.k.a. Th3 g33K)
  • Birthdate: September 7, 1982 (That makes me 42, math whiz.)
  • Occupations: Warrior Librarian, Sound Recording Cataloger Extraodinaire, and Barista to the Stars
  • First ever Wikipedia edit: Very minor change to Welcome to the Hellmouth (Buffy the Vampire Slayer series premiere)
  • Other defining labels: Jew
  • Corresponding Old-School Nickelodeon program: Clarissa Explains It All (an online quiz told me so)

Brief Education History

I grew up in Long Grove, Illinois and attended Adlai E. Stevenson High School where I didn't do much interesting in terms of academics. I played saxophone.

Then I went to Oberlin Conservatory where I started out as a classical saxophone major but later switched to music history. I had an amazing time at Oberlin, and the music history program was awesome, but after serious thought and attendance at the 2003 meeting of the American Musicological Society (someone should write an article on that) in Houston, I became disenchanted with the field.

That's when I decided (spur of the moment) to apply to Indiana University in library and information science. And here I am, specializing in music librarianship. I'd really like to work with a digital music library, but I'm also having a wonderful time with my current project: an internship in sound recording cataloging. So who knows what I'll end up doing... but I'd better decide soon because I graduate in December.

I win the prize!

I got a barnstar! It's seriously like a dream come true. Perhaps I need to get a life. But a nice person thinks I'm nice... AND I get to start a collection! What more could a Wikidork want?
