editDaler Mehndi was born into a Sikh family in Patna, Bihar, India. In 1991, he formed a musical group consisting of his brothers, cousins, and friends, marking the beginning of his journey in the music industry. His talents were soon recognized on an international scale, and in 1994, he won the prestigious Voice of Asia International Ethnic and Pop Music Contest held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, further solidifying his place in the world of music.

editIn 1993, Daler Mehndi signed three albums with Magnasound marking mainstream success. His first album, *Bolo Ta Ra Ra*, with sales of more than 20 million had made him a huge pop sensation, and he was awarded the Channel V Best Indian Male Pop Artist Award for this album and stood guaranteed in the world of music. A year later, his second album, *Dardi Rab Rab*, went a notch higher and conquered more sales than the first, with nominations in three categories at the Channel V Music Awards: he won the Best Indian Male Artist Award.
Mehndi released his third album, *Balle Balle*, in 1997, which reached multi-platinum status. Simultaneously he composed and sang "Na Na Na Re," another hit song for the Bollywood film *Mrityudata*, where he acted alongside Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. It is reported that 1.5 million copies of the soundtrack were sold in India.
In 1998, Mehndi came up with the super-hit video single *Tunak Tunak Tun*, which perhaps might be one of the first music videos shot by an Indian singer, shot with an unprecedented budget of ₹25 million. Overnight, the song and its video went on the floors of India, touching and transcending the boundaries that further goaded Mehndi as the biggest pop star of the country at that time, eventually winning international fame.
