Amphipods

 

 

The biggest amphipod in the White sea, Anonyx nugax, 5 cm long. This is an absolutely omnivorous creature. It eats both fishes and cans.

 

Monoculodes borealis. This is an interesting deep-water amphipod. Its eyes are closed strongly, so that they look like only one big eye.

 

A beautiful small amphipod with the difficult name: Acanthonotozoma inflatum. There are a lot of them in red algae.

 

These are the skeleton shrimps. They are amphipods too. These are Caprella septentrionalis. The next two are Caprella linearis:

 

A plankton amphipod Hyperia galba. They feed on jellies, you may see a lot of hyperias in the Aurelia or Cyanea species.
