Two men are in hospital after being shot when they answered the door of their home in a town in Bedfordshire late on Tuesday night.

Police went to Ashton Road, Luton, at 2330 GMT and the two men, who are 26-year-old students, were taken to Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

The men's injuries are not life threatening, a police spokesman said.

The road in the residential area half a mile from Luton town centre has been cordoned off as detectives investigate.

People are advised by police to avoid the area.
