Highlights from this year's National Television Awards, held in London on 20 January.

BBC soap EastEnders was one of the double winners at the ceremony. The whole cast were in attendance to collect the best serial drama award.

The soap's star Danny Dyer could not believe it when he was named the winner of best drama performance. The actor said he was 'honoured to be part of such a sublime and depressing programme'.

The contestants of this year's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! posed backstage with the show's award for best entertainment programme.

Britain's Got Talent winner Jules Dwyer and her stunt dogs Matisse and Chase walked the red carpet ahead of the ceremony, while Matisse also helped announce the best comedy winner.

Downton Abbey won best drama for the fourth time in five years. Hugh Bonneville described the ceremony as "a special night for us".

BBC drama Doctor Foster was another double winner, winning best new drama and best drama performance for its star, Suranne Jones (right). Jones revealed the second series of the hit show would begin filming in September.

Billy Connolly was presented with a special recognition award in honour of his 50-year career. Walking on stage he joked: 'This is the best laxative I’ve ever known in my life.'

The actor and comedian sported tartan trousers, which also conveyed a message.

The Great British Bake Off won best challenge programme. Although presenters Mel and Sue were not at the ceremony, judge Paul Hollywood praised them as "the glue that holds us together inside the tent".

Ant and Dec showed off their 15th consecutive best presenter awards to Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan as he took a selfie.

Holly Willoughby said she was surprised This Morning won best live magazine programme when she collected the award.

Tess Daly thanked the public for voting Strictly Come Dancing best talent programme.

Other winners included Shayne Ward, who won best newcomer for his role in Coronation Street; while Aidan Turner won the inaugural impact award for his shirt-stealing scenes in Poldark.
