Palomino Barns

The adobe Palomino Barns were the first structure erected on the State Fairgrounds, with construction beginning in 1936. Completed in just over a year, the barns at the time were state-of-the-art, and for 70 years housed horses during State Fair and other equestrian events throughout each year. The world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales have called the Palomino Barns home on more than one occasion, as have many a million-dollar Arabian throughout the years. In 2008, with money generously provided by the New Mexico Legislature, the Palomino Barns underwent a careful and complete renovation that saw them dismantled brick-by-adobe brick. Then, once all electrical, plumbing and structural components were brought to current code, the historic barns were reassembled using the very same adobe bricks they were originally built with. Now featuring removable state-of-the-art stalls, and dedicated wash and grooming areas, the Palomino Barns are an iconic structure that ties the past to the present on the EXPO grounds.
