Amii Stewart will forever be remembered for her 1979 US #1 hit "Knock On Wood", a disco remake of Eddie Floyd's original. Born Amy Stewart, she became "Amii" in the 1970s because another Amy Stewart had registered with Equity before she did. Amii toured with several musical productions (among them "Bubbling Brown Sugar") before meeting up with Barry Leng in London, the producer of her breakthrough hit. Although considered a "one hit wonder" in her homeland, Amii achieved considerably more success in the UK before moving to Italy in the early-80s (where she remains to this day). A great beauty and dancer, equally adept at belters and ballads, Ms. Stewart has retained a hardcore fan base. Her recordings have been produced by such diverse talents as Giorgio Moroder and Ennio Morricone, and it is unfortunate that her post-disco recordings are rarely heard outside her adopted country.
