Ada is upset that her family has not given her a lavish birthday breakfast. It is just that Ada has jumped the gun. Her birthday is tomorrow.
However some of her friends come round with presents because she told everybody it was her birthday today.
Although Ada told Walter not buy a present as they are saving up for the wedding. She really is excited to find out what Walter has got her.
Walter was hoping to take Ada for a nice meal at a restaurant and has everything set up. At the last moment he finds out that Ruth and Leslie are throwing Ada a party.
That is some look of disappointment on Walter's face when he realises that everything he arranged has come to nought. Luckily, it works out well for everybody. Weird to see that in the 1970s, prawn cocktails was regarded as the the height of posh nosh.
Even though Ada and Walter are engaged, Mrs Skinner makes another appearance and she still has her eye on Walter.
