I've heard that Affron Crocket blew up because of an impersonation of Russell Simmons he did on YouTube, but I think this was the first time I got the full blast of it. It's a good Russel Simmons or Rascoe Simmons if you will. A Hip-hop Story is one reflection of a Hip-hop Head's observation of what has happened in the last 50 years, the reflection was so good that it made us wish that the movie was not telling the story in parody. I'm slightly skeptical about the film's opinion on modern-day hip-hop. I ironically agree with it but I'm not in touch enough to say it's accurate (I would say the movie would say my statement makes them right).
It was a cheap movie that could not afford to make the 1980s look like the 1980s, but luckily it was funny. Affrion Crocket knows his hip-hop and knows how to poke fun at it with hilarious results.
For what it was it was fun.
