Here is the rare short film (31 mn) of 1992, which inspired the film "Funny Man" of 1994.
All the more rare, that until now it was not even listed on the Imdb. What a pity a short of this quality !
I fixed that by creating a file on Imdb on June 9, 2024.
This short film is really excellent, the staging of Simon Sprackling is of high quality, made with a lot of imagination. There is a great visual research on framing, colors, editing...
For the probably limited budget, some passages are really amazing in efficiency, especially at the end when the Funny Man goes into killing mode.
The characters are well exposed and very well defined.
The general interpretation is good, with often tasty dialogues !
I love the part where the mother asks her husband to roll him a joint, with him who decides to make himself one too, and their daughter who attends dismayed at this, goes away and says "You are pathetic !". And the father then asked his wife: "Tina, why do we have such precocious children ? I mean, where did we go wrong ?" Excellent !!
Two special mentions for the excellent Tim James in Funny Man, role that he will take again for the film; and also for Christian Burgess who plays the role of the father, really very very good (funny and very nuanced interpretation).
Very cute the exchange between him and his son while he phones ("Forever and ever and ever ?"). A tender moment among many other frankly funny...
What a pity that this actor was replaced for the 1994 film (probably for scheduling reasons given his resume at this time) !
But rest assured, the film will not forget the scenes of bloody killings, and they are crazy, spectacular and really funny, believe me, just be patient !
To summarize, a short to discover urgently and to show to your friends, because it does not deserve its current status "forgotten".
