Meaning: oak of weeping

This was a tree near Bethel, at the spot where Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, was buried (Genesis 35:8). Large trees, because of their rarity in the plains of Israel, were frequently designated as landmarks. It has been suggested that this particular tree is the same as the “palm tree of Deborah” (Judges 4:5).
