Dragon well
Hebrew: תַּנִּין —transliteration: tannin —meaning: dragon, sea monster, serpent + עֵ֣ין —transliteration: an eye —meaning: a spring
This name appears only once in Scripture, and in the King James Version and New American Standard Version. It is located at Jerusalem.
And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire. —Nehemiah 2:13 KJV —compare: Neh. 2:13 NASB
The New King James chose to call it “Serpent Well” (Neh. 2:13 NKJV).
It is supposed that this is identical with either the Gihon spring (aka Fountain of the Virgin) or the pool the spring fills—Jerusalem’s Pool of Siloam (aka Pool of Gihon.
