This was the name of a biblical man and a tribe.

  1. Lud, the 4th son of Shem, son of Noah

    Genesis 10:22; 1 Chronicles 1:17

    Lud was probably an ancestor of the Lydians.

  2. Tribe of Lud

    They are one of the Hamitic tribes descended from Mizraim, a people of Africa, on the west of Egypt.

    Mizraim became the father of [the people groups] Ludim and Anamim and Lehabim and Naphtuhim” —Genesis 10:13 NASB

    The people called Lud (or Ludim) were noted archers (Isaiah 66:19; compare Jeremiah 46:9).
