Land of Shalim

Meaning: land of foxes

a place apparently to the northwest of Jerusalem (1 Samuel 9:4), perhaps in the neighborhood of Shaalabbin in Dan (Joshua 19:42)

False god

Shalim is also the name of a false Canaanite god, also known as Shalem, Šalām, Salam, Salem, and Salim. He was a god of dusk, dawn and the netherworld.

An ancient pagan Ugaritic myth known as The Gracious and Most Beautiful Gods describes Shalim and twin his brother Shahar as offspring of El, the supreme pagan god of the ancient Canaanite religion. In other Ugaritic texts, the twins are associated with the sun goddess. A 13th century BC statuette depicts the goddess Asherah nursing the twins.
