TIMELESS STYLE, MATTRESS SITS DOWN INSIDE This handsome walnut bed is a slightly different version of our popular Libby Shaped Headboard bed. The hand-cut headboard shape options with large acorn-topped turned legs remain the same, but this bed is built a little wider and a little longer to allow the mattress to sink down inside the frame. The foot end of the bed features a small horizontal walnut cap to properly complete the look. There is still plenty of under-bed storage space with 10" of clearance beneath this bed, and, like all of our beds, it is sanded smooth with edges rounded over. WALNUT HARDWOODS The color you see is not a stain, but the natural color of this beautiful hardwood. Black walnut is the darkest wood we offer, and can range from a medium brown to a dark rich brown. Sometimes we see a little bit of light sapwood, sometimes darker chocolate brown streaks or even a purple hue. When making our headboards from two pieces of wood, we work very hard to match the color and grain so it appears seamless. Because wood is a natural product, its beauty marks are normal, and may include knots, knot holes, worm holes, large streaks or sections of light or blond sapwood and/or variations in grain and color. These variations are what make each piece unique. Any significant knot holes are filled with dark brown epoxy to be sure dust doesn't collect in them. Standard slat spacing: Twin & Full: 8 slats 3.7" apart Queen & King: 9 slats 3.25" apart Cal King: 10 slats 2.95" apart Center support & leg are included on all King and California King size beds. This bed is meant for just a mattress BUT we can work with a slim foundation or box springs, or build it as a surround (without any support) for an adjustable bed. A lower priced option, which is equally strong, is for you to purchase untreated pine 2 x 6 slats from your local hardware store. They can be purchased and cut to size for $50 - $150 (depending on the size of your bed.) Should you choose to get them locally, we will tell you exactly what you need to get when you place your order, or feel free to request that info before you buy. CUSTOMIZATION The turned legs make this bed a little less easily customized, as compared with our other beds. We can easily move the platform up or down a little, to accommodate a different mattress thickness or special request. It is available in other woods by special order, and can be made with different dimensions (taller, shorter, bigger headboard, small footboard, etc.) We do make this bed with a smaller straight headboard (see other listings.) We can add a center support, set the slats closer together, or set it up for a solid surface such as a bunkie board - just send us a message to ask about pricing. Customization on the hardwood portion of this bed may take a little longer and the price is significantly higher than our beds with straight or tapered legs, since the legs must be turned just for you. ASSEMBLY Our handmade hardwood beds are designed for easy home assembly. You will use a bit of glue, some dominoes, screws and a screwdriver, all of which are provided along with well-written instructions. Don't let that scare you, if you want to see instructions before you order, just ask. The foot rail + cap + short legs are fully assembled for you on this bed, which is why it ships via Freight or courier. Once you have the legs attached to the head rail, the bed is easily put together (and taken apart, should you move) with interlocking metal bed hardware. The slats are placed across the bed to create your platform, with a center support beam and leg running from head to foot on the King and California King. HELP!
