The UEFA European Soccer Championship 2008 is under way in Austria and Switzerland, which includes Vienna of course! Recently a new fad emerged: To hang small Austrian (or Croatian, or Turkish, or whatever your country of birth or choice is) flags in the windows of your car - these flags are produced by some companies, and one of the more prevalent versions is that of the best-selling Austrian newspaper, the "Kronen Zeitung" ("crown newspaper"), which is a bastaridzed version of the Austrian national flag and coat of arms. This advertisement flag is now being flown on all tramway trains in Vienna. This is a line 33 train at Nußdorfer Straße. I wonder if the "Krone" paid for this and e-mailed the responsible persons at the public transport company and city administration. Let's hear what they have to say... |
