Tell Mar Elias Mosaic

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: In 1999 one of the largest basilicas of Jordan was excavated on the 900 meter high hill Tell Mar Elija (Mar Elias). A three nave church, it was founded by the priest Saba, in 622. There are fine mosaics with floral motifs. Although not a thread of evidence was found, the local population considers this to be a spot where the prophet Eliajah - the first great prophet of Israel, dwelt.
