Chickens are prone to getting ticks and mites, and other insects like to lay eggs or live in the nesting boxes. The smell of the herbs drives bugs away, and the hens love eating them while they lay! The diatomaceous earth kills insects that come into contact with it, and it’s safe for chickens! You can even put it on your hens to kill any mites on them!” . . A treat holder is a safe way to give your chickens treats. Think about it - chickens poop all over the ground, and then they step in the poop and basically spreads the poop and potentially harmful viruses and bacteria all over their chicken run. I didn’t even mention fecal matter from wild birds, rodents and other animals! You don’t want to put food or treats directly on the ground because your chickens could get sick. Always put their feed or treats in some kind of container or dish to avoid this problem.
