This template is used to show Mon-language quotations or usage examples following a definition line. The actual work is delegated to Module:usex/templates and Module:usex. See WT:USEX for some general guidelines regarding usage examples.
It is intended as an enhancement to {{quote}}
and {{ux}}
that allows mark-up to be included in the Burmese script Mon text displayed to control the transliteration, but without it being shown in the text itself. See Module:mnw-translit for details of the mark-up.
This template can be used with the citation template family {{quote-book}}
etc. by using that family for the metadata and using this template for the quotation and its translation and its (semi-)automatic transliteration. This template's call would be normally indented relative to the call for the metadata by the use of an extra colon on the line formatting control code, e.g. '#*' for the metadata and '#*:' for this template.
Until such time as the transliteration module for Mon is formally incorporated in the Wiktionary language data, this template can also be used to automatically derive the transliteration from the quoted or example text without any mark-up. Once it is adopted, the standard citation templates will acquire that functionality, and should be used if no mark-up is applied.
Usage examples are distinguished from quotations by use of |isex=
.
Parameters
editApart from |amu=
, |isex=
and various limitations, these are all used as in {{quote}}
and {{ux}}
.
|1=
- The language code of the quote to be shown, e.g. mnw for Mon; this template may also be used for Middle Mon (mkh-mmn) and Old Mon (omx).
|2=
- The quote to be shown. It should not contain wikilinks.
|3=
,|translation=
or|t=
- The English translation for quotes on foreign entries.
|sc=
- The script code, required for certain languages with multiple possible scripts; see Wiktionary:List of scripts for the full list.
|inline=
- To include the translation in the same line as the quote, separated from the example by em dash, assuming that the quote, its translation and transliteration are short enough to fit in a single line. (Set it to 1 to choose inline mode.)
|q=
,|qN=
or|qualifier=
,|qualifierN=
- To include a qualifier for the example or quote. You can specify multiple qualifiers using q2=, q3=, etc.
- There is currently a limit of 5 qualifiers.
|ref=
- To include a reference or link to an originating external site.
|lit=
- A literal translation.
|sort=
- Sortkey. Add this only when the sortkey cannot be generated from the entry name.
|amu=
- The mark-up is expressed using characters from the set ⒶⒽⓄⓂ. These may be difficult to enter. If this parameter is applied, the corresponding uncircled letters may be used instead.
|isex=
- If this parameter is supplied, i.e. is non-blank, this templates supplies a usage example rather than a quotation.
Usage quotes and their sources are normally preceded by "#:
", or by "#*
" or "#*:
" to hide the usage quote.
