From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Ohnoitsjamie (talk | contribs) at 16:33, 25 January 2024 (airsoftshotgun.com: Added to Blacklist using SBHandler). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Mediawiki:Spam-blacklist is meant to be used by the spam blacklist extension. Unlike the meta spam blacklist, this blacklist affects pages on the English Wikipedia only. Any administrator may edit the spam blacklist. See Wikipedia:Spam blacklist for more information about the spam blacklist.

    Instructions for editors

There are 4 sections for posting comments below. Please make comments in the appropriate section. These links take you to the appropriate section:

    1. Proposed additions
    2. Proposed removals
    3. Troubleshooting and problems
    4. Discussion

Each section has a message box with instructions. In addition, please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment.

Completed requests are archived. Additions and removals are logged, reasons for blacklisting can be found there.

Addition of the templates {{Link summary}} (for domains), {{IP summary}} (for IP editors) and {{User summary}} (for users with account) results in the COIBot reports to be refreshed. See User:COIBot for more information on the reports.

    Instructions for admins
Any admin unfamiliar with this page should probably read this first, thanks.
If in doubt, please leave a request and a spam-knowledgeable admin will follow-up.

Please consider using Special:BlockedExternalDomains instead, powered by the AbuseFilter extension. This is faster and more easily searchable, though only supports whole domains and not whitelisting.

    1. Does the site have any validity to the project?
    2. Have links been placed after warnings/blocks? Have other methods of control been exhausted? Would referring this to our anti-spam bot, XLinkBot be a more appropriate step? Is there a WikiProject Spam report? If so, a permanent link would be helpful.
    3. Please ensure all links have been removed from articles and discussion pages before blacklisting. (They do not have to be removed from user or user talk pages.)
    4. Make the entry at the bottom of the list (before the last line). Please do not do this unless you are familiar with regular expressions — the disruption that can be caused is substantial.
    5. Close the request entry on here using either {{done}} or {{not done}} as appropriate. The request should be left open for a week maybe as there will often be further related sites or an appeal in that time.
    6. Log the entry. Warning: if you do not log any entry you make on the blacklist, it may well be removed if someone appeals and no valid reasons can be found. To log the entry, you will need this number – 1198999615 after you have closed the request. See here for more info on logging.

I'm not sure about this one, but ReadCube appears to be (in part) a URL shortening service, which we seem to discourage. WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:37, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If we were to blacklist it, we'd need to clean up the existing links first. That said, it seems like while it is a redirect service, the sample of links I examined all went to reasonble academic sites, so it may be an exception to the redirect rule. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:00, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the discussion at User talk:Galobtter#DOIs, I wonder if it's being used for these official shared links, in which case I'm thinking that this should probably be an accepted link. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
From what I can see this allows the links to be read without requiring a university login or other subscription, so I think the balance of convenience may favour not blacklisting it. Stifle (talk) 08:57, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds reasonable to me. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:36, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done on the basis of the above. Stifle (talk) 11:19, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    impossible.sg

Link to a digital marketing agency. All of the listed accounts only added the link once. All have edited constructively for a day or so, then took a break (most 5 months or so, though a few just a week or 2) and came back and edited 1 more day. Here, they sneakily adding this link as a ref, made a few more constructive edits, and never edited again. I find it hard to assume good faith with the pattern, but even if I'm just being cynical, this link is worthless as a source or external link. Apparition11 Complaints/Mistakes 23:15, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Apparition11 can you add the diffs containing the impossible.sg insertions made by the individual editors here? – robertsky (talk) 11:05, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Robertsky:@The Banner: Thank you both for taking the time to track down the diffs and my apologies for not including them in the report. I had them all up while making the report, but for whatever reason, it did not even cross my mind to add them. I guess I was having one of those days. Thanks again! Apparition11 Complaints/Mistakes 12:47, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Apparition11 it might be worth reporting to WP:SPI for further investigations. – robertsky (talk) 12:50, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Robertsky: I usually don't bother with throwaway accounts, but you're right. Given the fact that it's a digital marketing agency and the effort they went to in order to hide the link, there could be more links out there or to come. I'll try to get on that. Thanks again!
