The Riverland Independent Football League is an Australian rules football League located in South Australia's Riverland region. The league is the second division of the Riverland Football League, and features clubs from the smaller towns of the Riverland and Upper-Murray region.

The 2012 Grand Final was played at Cobdogla between the two newcomers to the league, Blanchetown-Swan Reach and Ramco; with BSR winning their first flag by 63 points. In 2013 BSR made their second Grand Final, but lost to Paringa by 3 points.

Origins

The origins of this league came in 1909 when Lyrup, Renmark Town and Fairview Rovers founded the Murray Football Association. The Lyrup (then Saints, Now Lions) won the first ever premiership

The competition reformed in 1919 as the Upper Murray Football Association and later in 1952 became the Upper Murray Football League, the same name as the Upper Murray Football League based around Corryong, Victoria.

In 1971, the league's B Grade admitted Wunkar from the defunct East Murray Football League.

The league's A Grade changed its name in 1972 to the Riverland Football League, with the B Grade changing its name to Riverland Independent Football League.

Ramco joined the RIFL in 2009 from the Mid Murray Football Association, as did Blanchetown/Swan Reach in 2010, and the MMFA disbanded.

Lyrup Withdrawal

Prior to the start of the 2013 season, the Lyrup Lions were forced to withdraw due to lack of players and coaching staff. However the club rejoined in 2014 narrowly missingout on a place in the finals and look as though they are continuing to grow in numbers and strength. Lyrup continued to improve and won the 2015 premiership. Since Lyrups withdrawal Blancetown Swan Reach have withdrawn from the competitition and rejoined and Moorook Kingston also withdrew and are yet to return to the competition.
