In 2017, Sumit started training under Nitin Jaiswal in Delhi, and from then he started competing in various National and International platforms. Sumit displayed very early on that he had the skill and ability to exceed at javelin throw, and began to perform very well on the National circuit at different events despite his very young age. After witnessing his talent, hard work and potential, GoSports inducted him into the Para Champions Programme in 2019 and he has only got better since then.{{Citation needed|date=August 2021}}

Sumit Antil (born 6 July 1998) is an Indian paralympian and javelin thrower. He won a gold medal in men's javelin throw F64 category at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.[2] He created world record, throwing 68.55 metre in the final.[3]

Early life

Sumit Antil was born on 6 July 1998 in Khewda, Sonipat, Haryana, India.[4][5] He lost his left leg below the knee after he was involved in a motorbike accident in 2015 at the age of 17. Sumit is supported by the GoSports Foundation[6] through the Para Champions Programme. Sumit was introduced to Para athletics by another para athlete, Rajkumar, while he was pursuing his B.Com from one of the prestigious institute, Ramjas college of Delhi University.

Career

In 2019, at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Italy, he created history when he broke the world record in the F64 category enroute to winning the Silver medal in the Combined Event, an incredible achievement. The pinnacle of his young career so far came when he clinched the Silver medal at World Para Athletics Championships, Dubai, 2019 and in the process broke his own world record in the F64 category.[7][8]

On 30 August 2021, Sumit Antil won gold medal with a World Record throw of 68.55m in javelin throw F64 at 2020 Summer Paralympics.[9]
