Summary

Description
English: This true-color image of Severe Tropical Cyclone Ilsa was captured during the evening hours on 13 April 2023, at 4:30 P.M. AWST (08:30 UTC), by the Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) instrument flying aboard JMA's Himawari 9 satellite. Ilsa was a powerful tropical cyclone that originated from a tropical low in the Arafura Sea near the Island of Yamdena in Indonesia in early April 2023 during the 2022-23 Australian region cyclone season. Later that night, it made landfall in Western Australia just east of Port Hedland as a Category 5 on the BoM cyclone scale. At the time this was captured, Ilsa was inching closer to the coast, intensifying with winds of 215 km/h (130 mph) (110 knots) on the 10-min BoM cyclone scale, making it a Category 5 on that scale and 260 km/h (160 mph) (135 knots) on the 1-min SSHWS making it a Category 5 on that scale and at the time it had a minimum central pressure of 930 mbar (27.5 inHg).
