Etymology

[edit]

Inherited from Malay badak, from Javanese ꦧꦝꦏ꧀ (badhak) (compare Javanese ꦮꦫꦏ꧀ (warak, rhinoceros)), from Old Javanese warak (rhinoceros) (compare Old Javanese wadak (wild buffalo)), probably from Proto-Austroasiatic (compare to Proto-Bahnaric *-rok (cow, ox) and Proto-Mon-Khmer *ruuk (ox)). Doublet of warak.
