[edit]Inherited from Malay badak, from Javanese ꦧꦝꦏ꧀ (badhak) (compare Javanese ꦮꦫꦏ꧀ (warak, “rhinoceros”)), from Old Javanese warak (“rhinoceros”) (compare Old Javanese wadak (“wild buffalo”)), probably from Proto-Austroasiatic (compare to Proto-Bahnaric *-rok (“cow, ox”) and Proto-Mon-Khmer *ruuk (“ox”)). Doublet of warak.
