Etymology

Most likely simply from Late Latin lendina, variant of lendinem, from Classical Latin lendem.

The unexpected /m/ (instead of */n/, the usual outcome of Latin /-nd-/) may be due to analogy with another word- or simply dissimilation from the following /n/.
