Construida para la Exposicin Universal en conmemoracin del centenario de la Revolucin Francesa, la torre con la bandera flambeando en la cumbre fue inaugurada el 31 de Marzo de 1889. A pesar de las fuertes protestas y de las crticas severas de los parisinos y de los intelectuales franceses durante su construccin, la estructura metlica se ha convertido hoy en da en el smbolo de Pars, atrayendo cada ao a ms de 6 millones de visitantes. Obra Maestra: Gustave Eiffel fue asistido en la construccin por los ingenieros Maurice Koechlin y Emile Nouguier y por el arquitecto Stephen Sauvestre. Los estudios sobre el proyecto comenzaron en 1884, su construccin comenz a pesar de todos los obstculos en 1887 y se termin 26 meses ms tarde en 1889. Estaba previsto en sus comienzos la destruccin de la torre metlica despus de la Exposicin Universal de 1900. Las pruebas de transmisin radiofnica efectuadas por la armada francesa antes de la fecha fatdica del proyecto de demolicin, salvaron finalmente la torre. Los Materiales utilizados: Hierro forjado erigido bajo la forma de 18.038 piezas entrecruzadas fijadas por 2.500.000 remaches. La estructura de la obra maestra de Gustave Eiffel es muy aireada y la robustez de sus materiales, su peso es de 7.300 toneladas. Altura: Desde el suelo hasta el mstil de la bandera la torre meda 312.27 metros en 1889 y hoy mide 324 metros, con sus antenas. Actualmente, diferentes cadenas de televisin francesa han instalado sus antenas en la cumbre de la torre. Propiedad de las autoridades locales de Pars y explotada por una sociedad privada, "Socit Nouvelle de l'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel", esta estructura es mantenida y pintada cada 7 aos con 50 toneladas de pintura - esta tarea es realizada por obreros expertos en deportes de escalamiento acrobtico. Sus Iluminaciones : La "Dama de Metal" es iluminada por 352 proyectores de 1.000 watts y centalla cada media hora por noche con 20.000 ampollas y 800 parpadeantes. Para dar ms vida y elegancia a la torre, 4 reflectores con luces de xenon de 6.000 watts que giran de manera permanente en la cumbre. Nmero de escalones: 1.665 escalones para los visitantes deportivos. Ascensores transparentes que suben hasta el segundo piso, donde se encuentran una gran cantidad de boutiques de suvenires.

Studies on the project began in 1884, the construction began in spite of all obstacles in 1887 and was completed 26 months later in 1889.
