Cassie Stephens on Instagram: "🎨Did y’all know that paint sticks are WATER SOLUBLE!? I had no idea, I thought they were a resist like oil pastel! Turns out they can make for a GREAT mess-free color mixing lesson! My second graders sorted the colors by primary and secondary with a partner (hello, assessment) then chose two to create a “color tornado”. From there, they just added water. So excited to add these fun papers to our collage stash! Had to share 🌈😍🌈😍🌈more details in my stories! 🌈?

Mural inspired by Faith Ringgold's book, TAR BEACH. Entire school contributed. Kindergarten made border, First Grade painted sky, Second Grade made people sleeping on "Tar Beach", Third Grade made the buildings, and Fourth Grade made the "flying self-portraits".
Elementary Art lesson based on Faith Ringgold's 'Tar Beach.' If you could fly, where would you soar to?
