Colonial New Orleans 1718-1803

Originally New Orleans was named Nouvelle Orleans, established in 1718 by Jean baptiste Le monye de bienville, the small settlement was located in a Swampy Humid Location and didn't seem Attractive enough to lure settlers, France Told Lies to Seduce People into Settling the Colony, and when the Lies were Exposed France Resorted to Forcibly Relocating Unwanted French to Louisiana, Despite it's Shaky unstable Origins Nouvelle Orleans quickly grew to importance, in 1722 it became the capital of New France replacing Mobile and in 1727 The Ursuline nuns arrived to establish Religion and order. The year 1743 had an elaborate High society aristocratic governor "Marquis de Vaudeville" who expanded New Orleans world wide fame as a City of Elgance and Pleasure and in 1763 Louisiana as a whole was given to spain due to the 7 Years war, Louisiana Remained Sternly French in all aspects of life however and Spains Attempts to Convert the French People into Spaniards Failed miserably The 1780s saw the rise of the British Colonies Break free from England, then on the Americans ( Dubbed Kaintucks by the Creoles ) were an increasingly common presence in the City all the way until Louisiana's Purchase in 1803. Much of New Orleans French colonial architecture was destroyed in the fires of 1788 and 1794, but few examples of French colonial architecture remains such as Madame John's legacy and the Ursuline Convent, more importantly French culture and customs maintaining it's stronghold in New Orleans, French Culture still Dominated Antebellum New Orleans, French Creole culture has kept it's longevity and persevering influence on New Orleans architecture and Society long after the Americans purchased Louisiana.
