Clouds and thick mist shroud the peaks of Mount Hua, or Hua Shan, east of Xi’an city in Shaanxi province. Mount Hua is one of China’s five Great Mountains and has a long history of religious significance. Rainfall increases when summer begins, as do the clouds, creating a scene very much like a fairyland full of natural wonders.

Where the gods meet to play chess. I took this photo near Xi’An on Mount Hua. According to a legend, Emperor Zhao Kuangyin played chess with the sage Chen Tuan in this pavilion. I’m not really into chess so I made a cup of coffee on the mountain and enjoyed the view instead. Who’d like a cup of coffee here?
